Wow, what a year it has been for the Brisbane Trail Ultra, Spartan Trail World Championship and Cairns Port Douglas Trail Ultra team.

We’ve weathered the storm of Covid-19 Lockdown to put on the Brisbane Trail Ultra. And now as we push forward to host the inaugural Cairns Port Douglas Trail Ultra, we find ourselves in a tricky situation with the recent Covid19 lockdown in South East Queensland.

The situation is different for us hosting the Cairns Port Douglas Trail Ultra, as our event management team, including our medical coordinator, is from the South East Queensland and currently in lockdown.

We believe it is important for us to be as clear and transparent as possible when navigating through these uncertain times.

We will keep you updated, as we all watch the news and hope for the best.

We will send out another communication on Monday the 9th of August when we have more information and better understand the current Delta Strain Outbreak.

Parts of our team plan to leave South East Queensland by the 13th of August so we can mark the course and be organised for the event.

If you’d like to ask us any questions, feel free to email me personally, and I will do my best to work with you and your current situation. I am working through deferrals for Sydney and NSW entrants.

We will also prepare the CPTU Virtual Challenge for August for those runners who can’t make it to the CPTU in 2021, living in Sydney and NSW and other potential areas that are effected by the recent outbreaks who have been asked to quarantine.

This year we’ve added a bit of fun the Virtual, by adding 30 Burpees instead of 100m of vertical gain for those who don’t have a hill near them. Or you can still add in 1km per 100m of vert that you miss just like the BTU Virtual in 2021.

We are almost 100% through our organisation process with almost all our permits in line, & most merchandise already arrived. As you know the Headskinz, medals and buckles have arrived and our Race Singlets arriving by 13th of August. Shona has packed the trailer and is all ready to go so we are totally gutted by this recent news and also the location we are residing in. We are hoping for the best, yet we have to be prepared for everything. It is important that we communicate this to you.

Worse Case Scenario

Our plan “B” if we have to action it, for the Cairns Port Douglas Trail Ultra, if our management team is unable to make it up to Far North Queensland in time for the CPTU is to sadly postpone until 2022.

We will then be deferring the entry list until 2022.

We hope we do not have to put plan “B” in place, and we will be watching the news closely over the next few days.

We thank everyone for their support and please keep the emails to a minimum as we are still planning the Cairns Port Douglas Trail Ultra.

Stay safe, strong and positive

Shona and the CPTU Team.
