Entries Open Wednesday 3rd November 05:00am AEST (QLD TIME)

Yippee, Cairns Port Douglas Entries Open 05:00 am, AEST on Wednesday the 3rd of November.

We are up in the region over the weekend which we are excited about which is why we pushed back the registration date just to make sure we were in phone and internet coverage for the launch of the Cairns Port Douglas Trail Ultra 2022 event.

We will be up in the Wet Tropics World Heritage Listed area taking photos of the course, performing site checks, checking the tide heights.

Keep an eye out for more newsletters over the next week to keep you informed on any changes to the CPTU. The most important change is the change that had nothing to do with us, but mother nature played her part in making the CPTU even better in 2022.

The Weekend of the 3rd and 4th of September is a 1/2 Moon

This information only affects the CPTU120 and CPTU80 Runners.

The Cairns Port Douglas Trail Ultra falls on a 1/2 Moon, this means that the change in the tide heights is less extreme. The tide height will be more consistent throughout the duration of our event.

We are visiting 4 Mile Beach over the weekend, we will assess the tide heights, and the available space to run on the beach for our runners, we will then be in consultation with the Crocodile experts, the local Police, and Port Douglas Surf Life Saving Club and give you a clear indication of the rules about running on the beach at night.

Remember, you will be able to pick up a pacer at The Bump Track to run in the last 20km with you!

Saturday 3rd September - 1/2 Moon

High Tide - 14:30 (2:30pm) - 2.09m - High

Low Tide - 23:16 (11:16pm) - 1.43m - Low

Sunday 4th September - 1/2 Moon

High Tide - 03:54 (03:54am) - 1.65 - High Tide

Low Tide - 10:07 (10:07am) - 0.95 - Low Tide

Mandatory Gear Change

Another benefit to the event being just those two weeks later is that the temperature in Kuranda will be 1 degree higher and the risk of rain is reduced. Therefore if a runner has a fall at the Stoney Creek area, it is a bit warmer and drier and less likely to suffer from hypothermia. We have decided to change the mandatory gear list for our runners. We will be assessing the conditions on the Wednesday before the event when we have the forecast for the race weekend. If it looks to be hotter than predicted, or wetter, we will again make a call on the mandatory gear list. We recommend that you have all the mandatory the kit with you, then you be over the moon if we tell you you don’t need something in it.

Okay!

I better get packing, so looking forward to visiting the Far North Queensland World Heritage Wet Tropics area. I will be up there tomorrow until Monday evening!

Bring it on!!!
